Are Your Business Details Consistent Across Your Website and Listings?

Facebook
Twitter
LinkedIn

Customers can encounter your business information in several places before contacting you. If the website shows one phone number and a profile shows another, the difference may be intentional, outdated or simply confusing.

A business-information audit is a practical way to find those differences. It does not require creating more directory entries or inventing locations.

Choose an authoritative record

Write down the details your business currently uses: public name, main contact number, website, genuine customer-facing address if applicable, service coverage and published hours.

Have the person responsible for operations confirm the record. Do not treat an old website footer as authoritative simply because it has been online for years.

Use a five-column worksheet

Create columns for source, field, current value, confirmed value and action owner. Review your homepage, contact page, footer and active business profiles. Include a booking page if it presents separate contact information.

For each difference, record the exact location of the information. ‘The phone is wrong somewhere’ is difficult to act on; a page URL and field name make the task concrete.

Distinguish intentional differences

Separate sales and support numbers can be useful when clearly labeled. Temporary hours may also differ from a normal schedule. The goal is understandable, accurate information, not identical text everywhere.

For a service-area business, explain where you work without suggesting that every community contains a staffed office. Do not create addresses to make a coverage list look more local.

Fix the source and verify the result

Assign each change to someone with access to that source. After saving, inspect the public view rather than relying only on an editor screen. Some updates may take time to appear.

Keep the worksheet and revisit it when you move, change a phone system or revise service coverage. This is a useful maintenance task alongside broader SEO work. It supports a consistent customer experience, but it is not evidence by itself that rankings will increase.
